Parents Visa

The parent visas allow parents of Australian permanent resident, Citizen, or eligible New Zealand citizens to settled inAustralia on permanent basis and include two Categories:

  • Contributory parent visa
  • Non-Contributory parent visas

1. Contributory parent visa includes following subclasses:

  • Subclass 173 (Offshore TemporaryVisa)
  • Subclass 143 (Offshore Permanent Visa)
  • Subclass 884 (Onshore Temporary Visa)
  • Subclass 864 (Onshore Permanent Visa)

2. Non-Contributory parent visas includes:

  • Subclass 103 (Offshore Permanent Visa)
  • Subclass 804 (Onshore Permanent Visa)

Longer waiting period (about 30 year), however, less fee as compared to contributory parent visas.

Basic Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be pension age (For contributory visa)
  • AOS for permanent contributory parents visa
  • No age limit with offshore contributory parent visa
  • Must meet family Balance test
  • Must have a sponsor (child who is Au PR, Citizen, ENC)
  • Must meet health and character requirements

Balance of family Test:

A parent meets the balance of family test if:

• At least half their children and stepchildren are eligible children
OR
• There are more eligible children than children living in any other single country

A child is an eligible child if they arean Australian citizen, or an Australian permanent resident usually resident in Australia, or an eligible New Zealand citizen usually resident in Australia.

Assurance Of Support (AOS)

An AoS bond is held for the duration of the AoS period. If you are applying for a permanent Contributory Parent or Contributory Aged Parent visa, the AoS period runs for 10 years from:

    • The date you arrived in Australia (if you applied from outside Australia)

OR

  • The date you were granted a permanent visa (if you applied from within Australia)

Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 870)

If you do not meet Balance of family test, you can apply this subclass for your parents.

  • This temporary visa lets a parent of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen visit Australia for up to 3 or 5 yearsand you can apply for further visas to visit up to a maximum period in Australia of 10 years.
  • You must have an approved Parent Sponsor to apply for this visa.
  • Have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
  • Must have and maintain adequate arrangements for health insurance from an Australian Health Insurance provider.
  • Must have, or have access to, enough money to support yourself while you are in Australia.
  • Must be the biological, legal (including adoptive) parent, stepparent or parent in-law of the Parent Sponsor and be at least 18 years of age.
